True Friendship

July 8, 2017 by Michael Sliney

TKC!

“Christ alone is the cornerstone on which it is possible solidly to build one’s existence. Only Christ – known, contemplated and loved – is the faithful friend who never lets us down, who becomes our travelling companion, and whose words warm our hearts.” St. John Paul II

You will find no better friend, no friend more faithful, loving, loyal, unconditional and inspiring than Jesus Christ.  Time dedicated to prayer is well worth the investment to develop this all important and all encompassing friendship!

God bless,

Fr. Michael Sliney, LC

Trust in God’s grace

July 7, 2017 by Michael Sliney

TKC!

“If He asks much of you, it is because He knows you can give much.” St. John Paul II

Sometimes it may seem that God is asking too much, (and sometimes you might be doing more than God wants you to do), but if the ordinary circumstances of life do get a little challenging, never doubt that God gave his official approval, and his grace will be enough to get you through whatever challenges lie ahead.

God bless,

Holiness in the little things

July 6, 2017 by Michael Sliney

TKC!

“Like happiness, holiness is always tied to little gestures.” These little gestures are those we learn at home, in the family; they get lost amid all the other things we do, yet they do make each day different. They are the quiet things done by mothers and grandmothers, by fathers and grandfathers, by children, by siblings. They are little signs of tenderness, affection and compassion. Like the warm supper we look forward to at night, the early lunch awaiting someone who gets up early to go to work. Homely gestures. Like a blessing before we go to bed, or a hug after we return from a hard day’s work. “ Pope Francis

God bless,

Trust in God

“Learn to do thy part and leave the rest to Heaven.”  Blessed Cardinal Newman

Don’t worry about the “Goliath’s” in your life…worry about what God wants you to do in each moment, and let him worry about the results!

Little things done with great love

July 3, 2017 by Michael Sliney

Thy Kingdom Come!

Dear Friends in Christ,

“The ordinary acts we practice every day at home are of more importance to the soul than their simplicity might suggest.”  St. Thomas More

St. Therese of Lisieux is the patron saint of the missions even though she never left the convent.  She would offer up little sacrifices for souls and one of her daily chores was to wash the pots and pans with a “difficult” sister.  She said that she could “see Jesus walking amidst the pots and pans.”   The little things done with love matter!!

God bless,

Making excuses?

July 2, 2017 by Michael Sliney

Thy Kingdom Come!

Dear Friends in Christ,

“Don’t let life happen’; take your life into your own hands and make the decision to turn it into an authentic and personal masterpiece!” (St. John Paul II)

It is too easy to make excuses for ourselves.  Child of origin issues, health issues, socio-economic disadvantages, and the list can go on.  My dad was born in East Detroit (rough part of town), son of a Detroit fireman, lost his only brother due to a kidney problem, and he was drafted in WWII right after High School.  He went to the University of Detroit on the GI bill after the war, started out as a Foreman at Ford and gradually worked his way up to a respectable position in the company.  He took his faith and his marriage seriously, and he taught me so many valuable lessons along the way.  Thanks Dad!

God bless,

Feminine Genius

July 1, 2017 by Michael Sliney

Thy Kingdom Come!

Dear Friends in Christ,

“The frenetic pace of modern life can lead to an obscuring or even a loss of what is truly human… Perhaps more than in other periods of history, our time is in need of that genius which belongs to women, and which can ensure sensitivity for human beings in every circumstance.”

  • St. Pope John Paul II

Children today are under intense pressure to compete for grades, for friends, for sports…and it creates huge stress on many levels.  Mom’s, employ your “feminine genius” to put the warmth of your unconditional love into their hearts, and soften the blow!!

God bless,

The road to happiness

June 30, 2017 by Michael Sliney

TKC!

“You must make up your mind to the prospect of sustaining a certain measure of pain and trouble in your passage through life.” Blessed Cardinal Newman

The road to happiness passes through the cross.  There are no short cuts or escape routes…it comes down to embracing with love, the circumstances and little thorns that God allows in your life each and everyday.

God bless,

Fr. Michael Sliney, LC
