From darkness to light

September 9, 2018 by Michael Sliney

“Darkness must pass, a new day will come. And when the sun shines, it will shine out the clearer.” –J.R.R. Tolkien

This too, will pass…praying that the Holy Spirit will lead our Church through yet another storm with serious reform, and healing for all…

God bless,

Fr. Michael Sliney, LC

God’s wisdom

September 7, 2018 by Michael Sliney

“For even the very wise cannot see all ends.” –J.R.R. Tolkien

Pray and tap into God’s incredible and unfathomable wisdom…so much deeper and broader than any human mind and any human perspective!

God bless,

Strong soul!

September 6, 2018 by Michael Sliney

“It is not the strength of the body that counts, but the strength of the spirit.” J.R.R. Tolkien

I am all for a healthy body and a rigorous work out plan…but we need to focus even more on our soul.  How much time do you dedicate to God each day?

God bless,

Fr. Michael Sliney, LC

Team work at home

September 5, 2018 by Michael Sliney

“All have their worth and each contributes to the worth of the others.” J.R.R. Tolkien

Team work and appreciation of each other’s gifts all begins at home…look for the good in your family members and try to learn from each one.  God has placed you on this dream team and it could not be any better for you!

God bless,

Fr. Michael Sliney, LC

The finish line

September 2, 2018 by Michael Sliney

TKC!

“It is good to think about our having our citizenship in Heaven and the saints of Heaven as our fellow citizens…Then it is easier to bear the things that are on Earth.” St. Edith Stein

When I am on mile 19,20,21 in a marathon, it is so helpful to think about the finish line.  When life gets a little tougher and God is asking for more humility and selflessness, this image of entering the heavenly gates might be a good one to remember!

God bless,

Smell the roses!

September 1, 2018 by Michael Sliney

TKC!

“If, then, I were asked for the most important advice I could give, that which I considered to be the most useful to the men of our century, I should simply say: in the name of God, stop a moment, cease your work, look around you.” – Leo Tolstoy

God bless,

Charity begins at home

August 31, 2018 by Michael Sliney

“It is easy to love the people far away. It is not always easy to love those close to us. It is easier to give a cup of rice to relieve hunger than to relieve the loneliness and pain of someone unloved in our own home. Bring love into your home for this is where our love for each other must start.” St. Teresa of Calcutta

I am so grateful for my two older brothers and older sister…they put with my temperament, they tutored me in math and french, they taught me how to play ping pong, golf, hockey and basketball, knew how to make me smile, and showed me what love was all about in so many ways!

Kind words

August 30, 2018 by Michael Sliney

“Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.” St. Teresa of Calcutta

Words of affirmation, words of gratitude, words of justified praise…are so seldom heard today, and make such a huge impact on the person receiving them.

God bless,

Fr. Michael Sliney, LC

Lean into Christ!

August 29, 2018 by Michael Sliney

Thy Kingdom Come!

Dear Friends in Christ,

“How often I failed in my duty to God, because I was not leaning on the strong pillar of prayer.”  –St. Teresa of Avila

The Battle of Bataan was lost because the Japanese completely cut off the supply lines of the American troops and let the ravages of the jungle devour them…only then, in their weakest moment, they attacked.  Many of the American soldiers were not strong enough to move or even pull the trigger, and the defeat was disastrous.  The devil employs this same strategy in convincing us to cut off our time of prayer.  Keep your soul fed with grace!  Go to daily Mass, regular Confession, pray your daily rosary, and Gospel meditation…and have no fear, with the help of God’s grace you will emerge victorious!
