“Mike, I know you hope to be really successful and make a lot of money. But don’t get too caught up in all of these worldly things. Our true home is in heaven, there is a place for us waiting…keep this as your goal.” (my dad’s words to me as a senior in High School)
When I told him a few years later that I felt a strong calling by Jesus to be a priest with the Legionaries of Christ, he initially struggled. Then he came back to me two days later and said, “Mike, I have not slept well these past few nights thinking about your decision, and I realized that if God is truly calling you to be His priest, as your dad, I have no right to get in His way. I give you my blessing.” I sure miss my mom and dad!
