Charity begins at home

August 31, 2018 by Michael Sliney

“It is easy to love the people far away. It is not always easy to love those close to us. It is easier to give a cup of rice to relieve hunger than to relieve the loneliness and pain of someone unloved in our own home. Bring love into your home for this is where our love for each other must start.” St. Teresa of Calcutta

I am so grateful for my two older brothers and older sister…they put with my temperament, they tutored me in math and french, they taught me how to play ping pong, golf, hockey and basketball, knew how to make me smile, and showed me what love was all about in so many ways!

Kind words

August 30, 2018 by Michael Sliney

“Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.” St. Teresa of Calcutta

Words of affirmation, words of gratitude, words of justified praise…are so seldom heard today, and make such a huge impact on the person receiving them.

God bless,

Lean into Christ!

August 29, 2018 by Michael Sliney

Thy Kingdom Come!

Dear Friends in Christ,

“How often I failed in my duty to God, because I was not leaning on the strong pillar of prayer.”  –St. Teresa of Avila

The Battle of Bataan was lost because the Japanese completely cut off the supply lines of the American troops and let the ravages of the jungle devour them…only then, in their weakest moment, they attacked.  Many of the American soldiers were not strong enough to move or even pull the trigger, and the defeat was disastrous.  The devil employs this same strategy in convincing us to cut off our time of prayer.  Keep your soul fed with grace!  Go to daily Mass, regular Confession, pray your daily rosary, and Gospel meditation…and have no fear, with the help of God’s grace you will emerge victorious!

Trust in God

August 28, 2018 by Michael Sliney

TKC!

“Whatever did not fit in with my plan did lie within the plan of God. I have an ever deeper and firmer belief that nothing is merely an accident when seen in the light of God, that my whole life down to the smallest details has been marked out for me in the plan of Divine Providence and has a completely coherent meaning in God’s all-seeing eyes. And so I am beginning to rejoice in the light of glory wherein this meaning will be unveiled to me.” St. Edith Stein

It all comes down to trust…God loves you and he will be trying to help you, even though some times, it may come in the form of tough love.

God bless,

Fr. Michael Sliney, LC

Jesus is always close

August 27, 2018 by Michael Sliney

“There’s nothing more calming in difficult moments that knowing there’s some one fighting with you.” St. Teresa of Calcutta

You may not see Him, you may not feel Him, you may not hear Him…but never doubt that Jesus loves you intensely and he is very close, right by your side!

God bless,

Fr. Michael Sliney, LC

Slow down!

August 26, 2018 by Michael Sliney

“Without patience, we will learn less in life. We will see less. We will feel less. We will hear less. Ironically, rush and more usually mean less.” St. Mother Teresa

BE in the moment, right here, right now with the person who is right in front of you…and allow God’s love to start working!

God bless,

Fr. Michael Sliney, LC

Patience with others

August 25, 2018 by Michael Sliney

TKC!

“Patience obtains everything.” St. Teresa of Avila

If only we could all live this virtue more effectively…not to snap, not to judge and show anger, not to say hurtful words…but this effort is absolutely impossible without the help of God’s grace.  Daily Mass, regular Confession, meditative prayer based on Scripture, rosary and marian devotion= FULL patience guage!!

God bless,

Fr. Michael Sliney, LC

Allow the Holy Spirit to chisel

August 23, 2018 by Michael Sliney

TKC!

“We are like the penny, because we have the image of the king stamped on us, the divine king.” G.K. Chesterton

When Michelangelo saw this particular block of marble in the quarry, he stated, “Moses is in this block of marble, I need to bring him out!”  The Holy Spirit says the same when he sees our soul…”Jesus is in this soul, I need to bring him out.”  Allow him to chisel, listen and act on the inspirations of the Holy Spirit in your life!!

God bless,

Fr. Michael Sliney, LC

God is on the journey too…

August 22, 2018 by Michael Sliney

“The feeling remains that God is on the journey, too.” St. Teresa of Avila

God is definitely on the journey to accompany and help us, but we need to remember he is there and acknowledge our need for him.

God bless,
