My latest poem

January 31, 2026 by Michael Sliney

Your cell phone addiction…causes much affliction!

Glued to the display?…no talk, no diction?
Six hours each day?…without constriction?
Too busy to pray?…no benediction!
People around?…Please, shut it down!
Go “face to face”…instead of zoom!
Leave it some place…not your bedroom!
Be open to grace..crush doom and gloom!

“The sign of spiritual progress is not so much never falling as it is being able to lift oneself up quickly after one falls.” Fr. Jacques Philippe

Feelings…

January 29, 2026 by Michael Sliney

“Real freedom does not mean being ruled by one’s impulses from one moment to the next. Just the opposite. Being free means not being a slave to one’s moods; it means being guided in a course of action by the fundamental choices one has made, choices one does not repudiate in the face of new circumstances.”  Fr. Jacques Philippe

Daily prayer routine

January 28, 2026 by Michael Sliney

“Here is a point worth underlining: Mental prayer should not be treated as something exceptional, done at a time snatched with difficulty from other activities, but should become a habit, part of the normal rhythm of our lives, so that its place is never questioned, even for a single day. This will foster fidelity to mental prayer, which is essential. Life is shaped by rhythms: the rhythm of heartbeat and breathing, the rhythm of day and night, of meals, of weeks, and so on. Mental prayer should become a daily event as vital to us as the basic rhythms of existence. It should become the breathing of our souls.” Fr. Jacques Philippe
