September 12, 2016 by Michael Sliney

Thy Kingdom Come!
Dear Friends, in Christ,
“Nothing ever happens in the world that does not happen first inside human hearts.” Venerable Fulton J. Sheen

The battle of the mind and the heart, reasons and the emotions/passions, the Holy Spirit vs. the evil spirit…this is the origin of all actions, and our life of prayer and life of grace will have a huge impact on the outcome. Make time for God and he will be there to help you win these silent battles.
God bless,
Fr. Michael Sliney, LC

Thy Kingdom Come!
Dear Friends, in Christ,
“To say the very thing you really mean…nothing more or less or other than what you really mean; that’s the whole art and joy of words.” CS Lewis

Being sincere, direct and transparent is generally a good thing, but this does not exclude prudence and charity in how you communicate.
God bless,

Selflessness

Thy Kingdom Come!
Dear Friends, in Christ,
“Faced with today’s problems and disappointments, many people will try to escape from their responsibility. Escape in selfishness, escape in sexual pleasure, escape in drugs, escape in violence, escape in indifference and cynical attitudes. I propose to you the option of love, which is the opposite of escape.” St. John Paul II

If love for Christ is the main motivation behind absolutely everything you do, you will never get tired of being selfless.
God bless,
Fr. Michael Sliney, LC

Evangelization through social media

September 8, 2016 by Michael Sliney

Thy Kingdom Come!
Dear Friends, in Christ,
“The question confronting the Church today is not any longer whether the man in the street can grasp a religious message, but how to employ the communications media so as to let him have the full impact of the Gospel message.” St. John Paul II

Social media can be a very valuable tool in the evangelization of modern man. Although this does not take away from the importance of real “face time” and personal contact, it can be a very effective resource to support this effort. (I am always open to suggestions on how I can do this better!)
God bless,

Thy Kingdom Come!
Dear Friends, in Christ,
“We must lay before him what is in us; not what ought to be in us.” CS Lewis

To all the moms and dads out there, don’t you love your kids in an unconditional way, in spite of their warts and bruises, sins and imperfections? Try to remember that God is truly OUR FATHER and he will always see you as his beloved child!
God bless,

We are all in the same boat

September 6, 2016 by Michael Sliney

Thy Kingdom Come!
Dear Friends, in Christ,
“We are all in the same boat in a stormy sea, and we owe each other a terrible loyalty.” G.K. Chesterton

God has placed each one of you in a particular fishbowl. At times, you may feel a desire to jump out, to look for another bowl…but in those moments, look into the eyes of Christ and ask him, “Lord, I know these are the souls that you want to love through me. Please help me to embrace all of them with a sincere love.”
God bless,

Be humble enough to ask for help

September 5, 2016 by Michael Sliney

Thy Kingdom Come!
Dear Friends, in Christ,
“To be conscious of one’s weakness and to trust in God’s help is the way to authentic strength and victory.” Alice Von Hildebrand

In the obstacle course of life, you need to be humble enough to accept that you cannot scale every wall by yourself. Lean into Christ, seek out a solid spiritual director, surround yourself with Christ-centered friends…and you will find that there is no obstacle that cannot be overcome!
God bless,

Be prepared!

Thy Kingdom Come!
Dear Friends, in Christ,
“It is folly not to think of death. It is greater folly to think of it, and not prepare for it.” St. Alphonsus Liguori

During my daily run, I pass the Rye cemetery every day…I glance at those old tomb stones and it reminds me of my own mortality and the need to be prepared for this final encounter with Our Lord…
God bless,

Star of the sea

Thy Kingdom Come!
Dear Friends, in Christ,
“As mariners are guided into port by the shining of a star, so Christians are guided to heaven by Mary.” – St. Thomas Aquinas

One of the titles attributed to Our Blessed Mother is “Star of the Sea.” She showed us what it means to whole-heartedly conform your life and your will to the plan of God, and she is an incredible point of reference in our journey towards the heavenly port! Thank you, Mary for your “yes” to God’s plan!

God bless,
Fr. Michael Sliney, LC

Thy Kingdom Come!
Dear Friends, in Christ,
“The enemy will not see you vanish into God’s company without an effort to reclaim you.” C.S. Lewis

Pray every day, stay close to Christ and our Blessed Mother every single day…they are holding your hands and will accompany you to the gates of heaven. Patient perseverance and lots of love for Christ is required!
