Listening to God

August 18, 2017 by Michael Sliney

TKC!

“Of all human activities, man’s listening to God is the supreme act of his reasoning and will.” Blessed Paul VI

God is always ready to listen to us and respond to our plethora of needs and concerns.  Are we willing to listen to God?  Are we afraid to allow him to challenge us to grow and perhaps leave aside unhealthy attachments?

God bless,

Fr. Michael Sliney, LC

Thinking of Jesus

August 17, 2017 by Michael Sliney

TKC!

“Don’t be daunted by the cross. The surest test of love consists in suffering for the loved one, and if God suffered so much for love, the pain we suffer for Him becomes as lovable as love itself.” St. Padre Pio

Do you think of Jesus “constantly”, especially when it gets tough?  The cross is always a golden opportunity to show Jesus just how much you love him and trust in his plan for you!

God bless,

Fr. Michael Sliney, LC

Guardian angels

August 16, 2017 by Michael Sliney

“We have close to us an angelic spirit who never leaves us for an instant from the cradle to the grave, who guides and protects us like a friend or a brother.” St. Padre Pio

Our guardian angel does not take naps or even go to bed…24/7, all the time, totally focused on keeping us on track with God loving plan. What a gift!!

God bless,

Fr. Michael Sliney, LC

Keeping balance

August 14, 2017 by Michael Sliney

TKC!

Oh, how precious time is! Blessed are those who know how to make good use of it. Oh, if only all could understand how precious time is, undoubtedly everyone would do his best to spend it in a praiseworthy manner! ~Saint Padre Pio

It’s all about balance…and you need to continually sharpen the saw!  Don’t feel bad about taking a nap, reading a good book, going for a jog, working in the garden, hitting a few golf balls…find something that helps your brain rest, and your family and friends will definitely benefit!

God bless,

Fr. Michael Sliney, LC

Hypocritical?

August 13, 2017 by Michael Sliney

TKC!
“Just going to church doesn’t make you a Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car.” GK Chesterton

A common complaint I hear from people on the streets are the “holier than thou Catholics who let you how devout they are and how often they attend Mass, but are often more prideful and hypocritical than your average secular person.” I am always happy to see full churches, rosary groups, long lines for Confession, etc…but we do all of this so we can be holier, kinder, and better reflect God’s love in our lives. In the words of St. John of the Cross, “At the end of our lives, we will be judged our love.”
God bless,

Self-absorbed?

August 12, 2017 by Michael Sliney

TKC!

“Dear Sir: Regarding your article ‘What’s Wrong with the World,’ I am. Yours truly.” GK Chesterton

If we are honest, we could all be a little less self-absorbed and a little more focused on serving the needs of those around us…and our world, our pond, will be a much happier place.

God bless,

All for love

August 11, 2017 by Michael Sliney

Thy Kingdom Come!

Dear Friends, in Christ,

“We have to do everything for love, not out of force.”  St. Francis de Sales

I am always edified when my brother priests roll up their sleeves and tackle a pile of pots and pans with a smile, and even crack a few jokes to make it enjoyable.  There is a lot of enthusiasm and love for Christ driving this effort, and this sure makes community life more pleasant.

God bless,

Fr. Michael Sliney, LC
