Useless to meet revenge with revenge

September 13, 2017 by Michael Sliney

TKC!

“It is useless to meet revenge with revenge; it will heal nothing.” J.R.R. Tolkien

You should not let people step over you or take advantage of you, but when you are unjustly hurt, try to remember that “hurt people, hurt people.”  Dig deep and try to see that person through the merciful eyes of Jesus.

God bless,

Fr. Michael Sliney, LC

Beautiful marriage

September 12, 2017 by Michael Sliney

TKC!

“The real soul-mate is the one you are actually married to.” J.R.R. Tolkien

I am always deeply edified by couples that focus hard on trying to make their marriage beautiful.  They know each other’s love language and bend over backwards, with the help of God’s grace, to love their spouse in the way they truly appreciate being loved. Kids benefit so much from witnessing a beautiful marriage!!

God bless,

Trusting in God

September 11, 2017 by Michael Sliney

TKC!

“I do so dearly believe that no half-heartedness and no worldly fear must turn us aside from following the light unflinchingly.” J.R.R. Tolkien

St. Paul reminds us, “I can do all things in Him in whom I put my trust.”  Put your confidence in God, remind yourself that he is in the boat as your journey through life, and never, ever doubt his very personal and very intense love for you.

God bless,

Fr. Michael Sliney, LC

Happy tears

September 10, 2017 by Michael Sliney

TKC!

“I will not say, do not weep, for not all tears are an evil.” J.R.R. Tolkien

My first official Mass with my family was on December 25, 1998.  As I lifted up the host for the first time, I felt tears welling up in my eyes…13 and a half years of preparation and the moment finally arrived, so special!  This photo was taken shortly after the Mass at St. Isidore’s in Rome.

An 80 year old priest accompanied me during this Mass, so I truly felt the passing of the torch!

Too busy to pray?

September 9, 2017 by Michael Sliney

TKC!

“If you’re too busy to pray…you’re too busy”  St. Mother Teresa

Anywhere, anytime, God is always ready and extremely happy to listen to you and help you with all your needs and concerns.  Is he on your daily schedule?

God bless,

Surrender to God

September 8, 2017 by Michael Sliney

TKC!

“..fallen man is not simply an imperfect creature who needs improvement: he is a rebel who must lay down his arms.” CS Lewis

Which doors in the depths of your heart are locked?  Where are you not “willing to go”, even though you know God wants this from you?  We need to repeat in prayer, with the words of Jesus himself, “Lord, not my will but your will be done!”

God bless,

Fr. Michael Sliney, LC

Openness with God

September 7, 2017 by Michael Sliney

TKC!

“We must lay before Him what is in us, not what ought to be in us.”  CS Lewis

Some of my most intimate and effective prayers are when I open my heart to God and tell him; “Jesus, my human nature is struggling in this particular area right now.  I know you want me to go there, but I am feeling a lot of internal resistance.  Could you please help me truly desire this virtue?  I am weak and I really need your help!”

God bless,

Fr. Michael Sliney, LC

Constructive criticism

September 6, 2017 by Michael Sliney

“What can you ever really know of other people’s souls—of their temptations, their opportunities, their struggles? One soul in the whole creation you do know: and it is the only one whose fate is placed in your hands.” CS Lewis

Outside of the context of a family or “best friend” relationship, we need to be very careful in offering constructive criticism.  I find it much more effective to inspire them with the strong example of a virtuous life.

God bless,
