Dear Friends, in Christ,

    I have no problem with someone having an occasional mixed drink or a glass of wine at a meal.  But when it becomes a daily “need” and suddenly it becomes close to a bottle of wine, there is clearly a problem.  Too many marriages (and children) have been brutally hurt because of drinking problems, and I would hope that if you have a good friend going down that path, you would not hesitate to have a heart to heart on this topic.

     This chapel at St. Patrick’s Cathedral is one of my favorite places to “hang out” with Jesus.  Few words if any are needed, just “being with” the one I love and whom I know loves me!

With 14 priests, seminarians, and mission corps young men currently living in our house in DC and 8 priests living in our house in NY, we have a combined annual budget of $250,000 and hope to send an additional $30,000 to our seminary in Cheshire, Ct. to support their needs as well.      With Christ at your side and in your heart, there is no reason to ever be afraid…and we should not be surprised if he is asking us to walk in his footsteps, which does entail suffering at times, but also guarantees spiritual growth and fulfillment.

    St. John Paul II suffered so much…but he was a man of such deep joy!  His mother, sister, brother and dad died before he was 21 years old, he suffered from communist oppression for so many years, and he had multiple health issues, including a bullet wound, cancer and Parkinson’s…but that joy never left his face!
