“Love ought to show itself in deeds more than in words.” – St. Ignatius of Loyola
The mere gift of your presence or a small act of sincere kindness, especially when it interrupts your schedule or creates a personal inconvenience, can be so helpful for a friend in need!

“The loveliest masterpiece of the heart of God is the love of a Mother.” -St. Therese of Lisieux
Like a rose, a mother’s heart is always open, always loving, always beautiful…and often surrounded by thorns. Thank you, to all the moms out there…we need you!!

Thy Kingdom Come!
Dear Friends in Christ,
“Honor your Father and your Mother.” (Exodus 20:12)
Basic Tips for disciplining children
1. Do not over-react: the less emotion, the better, and the punishment needs to be proportional to the infraction.
2. United front- mom and dad must be on the same page, and punishments should be discussed in private as a couple before announcing it to the child.
3. Explain why you are punishing them: Make the children understand the gravity of the offense, the long term effect of that behavior, etc…
4. Determine what they most enjoy doing and use that as collateral (cell phones, video games, computer, facebook, ipod, dessert,…)
5. Disrespect can never be tolerated.
6. The punishment should be constructive. Give them a good book to read and summarize, an assignment or a chore so as to make good use of this time.
7. Unconditional love- no matter what happens, they still need to see that you love them.

“I am not sure exactly what heaven will be like, but I know that when we die and it comes time for God to judge us, he will not ask, ‘How many good things have you done in your life?’ rather he will ask, ‘How much love did you put into what you did?” St. Mother Teresa
These little acts of kindness and self-giving done out of love for God will certainly be on the highlight film of our life’s journey.

“Without patience, we will learn less in life. We will see less. We will feel less. We will hear less. Ironically, rush and more usually mean less.” St. Mother Teresa
Silence, calm, patient endurance…builds so much character and this is so needed in today’s “give it to me right now” frenetic world.

“Books are the most wonderful friends in the world. When you meet them and pick them up, they are always ready to give you a few ideas. When you put them down, they never get mad; when you take them up again, they seem to enrich you all the more.” Venerable Fulton J. Sheen
Take time out to read good books. I am a big fan of literary fiction, as it seems to open up a deeper understanding of human nature to my priestly heart, (My recent reads: “Goldfinch”, “All the Light We Cannot See”, “The Road”, “Jane Eyre”, “The Invention of Wings”, “Les Miserables”, “Priestblock 25487”, “The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet”, “Gilead” and “Lila”, anything by Charles Dickens,…), and my overall favorite is CS Lewis.

“Our brains today are big enough. Could it be that our hearts are too small?” Venerable Fulton J. Sheen
Without a heart and without love, we all risk becoming the “Grinch.” It all begins in prayer…you simply cannot give what you do not have…and only God’s love can soften and activate a small and meager heart.

“The greatest love story of all time is contained in a tiny white host.” Venerable Fulton J. Sheen
I strongly encourage all of you to make time to go to adoration, especially during this Lenten season ahead. Simply place yourself in front of Jesus and allow him to love you!
